Installation of Sewage Treatment & Drainage Field
This Installation was one of our biggest to date! We completed a site inspection late last year for a school in Hemel Hempstead, they required a new sewage treatment system and drainage field.
First of all we carried out a fully comprehensive percolation test to determine the amount of linear metres of drainage field required.
We installed a Marsh EN25 pumped outlet treatment plant, discharging to 43 linear meters of drainage field.
The installation was a huge success and our customer is super happy with the end result and clean up as are we!
Twin Pump Station Design & Installation
Before
Mr Base first called us at Ekoflow explaining that his twin pump station, high level alarm kept operating and he could smell sewage in his downstairs toilet.
Our engineer attended and upon inspection noticed that the tank walls had bowed. It was diagnosed that ground water pressure from original installation, which was completed by another company was the root cause of the problem.
After further investigation
We then arranged a second visit. Our engineer attended along with our accredited install team. We excavated the exterior edge of the tank using a machine and realised that the ground water was high in the local area.
This had a knock on effect causing pressure on the tank walls, allowing the tank to implode as shown.Removal of existing tank and Disposal
Our in house tanker driver attended the site, emptied the system and washed down the internal walls of the pumping station.
Then our team of accredited installers made light work of digging out the old tank. They ensured they left the inlet and outlet pipework exposed at the correct heights, to be installed into the new concrete ring tank. The old PPS tank was then broken down and compacted across 2 hired skips that we arranged to be dropped off and removed on the same day.
Installation of new concrete tank and internal pipework
Our team then lowered in the concrete rings creating the tank walls. We then created a concrete base to seal the tank to ensure the system was watertight. Both engineers then completed confined spaces entry, to install the pre-built pedestal base and position as per drawings.
Our engineers positioned and installed the inlet pipe enabling the correct fall was entering the tank. Both engineers then built up the pipework including 2 x Non return valves and gate valve. Final connections to the MDPE rising main was made. We then procceeded to install the guide rail system and cross member. The tank is now ready for the commissioning stage.</p<
Commissioning
Both claws and galvanised lifting chains were fitted onto the pumps ready to be lowered into the tank via the guide rail system. The pumps were installed into the chamber using lifting equipment (tripod, block and tackle) and the float heights set accordingly, with the tank capacity and inlet heights. All cables then pulled back to the twin pump control panel through the ducting provided as a means of protection for the cables. The control panel was then installed in the kiosk with a mains supply.
The panel was connected, setting the pump overloads as per the pump data plates. High level beacon installed on top of the kiosk and connected in the panel making the system ready for a test run. System tested in hand and auto. Both pumps were then insulation resistance tested and recorded for the commissioning certificate. With no leaks and all parameters set the system was ready to have the lid installed.
Conclusion
Mr Base's system was assessed removed, designed and installed in a matter of a week causing minimal downtime and stress upon the household. We at Ekoflow are able to provide our industry knowledge to reduce cost from start to finish. We understood the urgency of Mr Base's breakdown and provided a detailed solution. The works were carried out fast and with no issues along the way.
Mr Base will now be on an annual service plan and be a long-term serving customer of Ekoflow.
